When we are faced with blocks of text it’s often our inclination to **interpret** them as blocks with one mindset to color all of it as we head for that final period. But within sections — even within paragraphs— there can be “scenes”: sentences that hold together with an idea, places to pause, moments to make attitude or objective adjustments and consider what is next.
This is true for game scripts in particular, but it’s also true for ads and narrations. We will look for ways to deconstruct any script’s format to serve you better and discuss means of emphasis, action vs emotion, and when to “disrespect the punctuation” as Candi Milo puts it.If you didn’t get cast in a project you read for and it’s bugging you, bring that script to this session and we’ll thrash it together. (DB will also have a number of audition pieces to pick from if needed)
That script is not the boss of you. Learning how to block your script puts you in control.
