“Who even are you?” A constant theme in the industry that not many actors speak on is the misunderstanding of oneself when sitting behind the microphone.
In this workshop, together, we’ll shed layers of personality, misdirection in specs, and the dreaded imposter syndrome, among other topics. Voiceover isn’t an easy industry to break into let alone remain a consistently bookable talent. The most common issue I’ve seen on my journey is this idea that in order to be the “next big thing” we must
change who we are. To voice like that guy or gal, or approach my next studio interaction like them. This workshop will challenge that train of thought as we embody new ways of being behind the mic.
Materials
- Simple. You, yourself, and your microphone. Preferred that each student be present behind their microphone. Doesn’t need to be the fanciest or high-end. A USB mic will do!
- You do not need to be represented by an agent or a working actor. Beginners and established actors are welcome and encouraged.
- Note-taking is key here. I’m a man of mantras, so use your notes on your phone or go old school with a pen and paper. Some of these words might help you in the booth or daily life.
