Following the opening of The Queensboro Bridge on March 30th, 1909, underneath consists of majestically colored tile vaults designed by renowned barceloní architect Rafael Guastavino. Developing the area into commercial space with the help of his son where it served as a year-round marketplace where vendors sold fruits and vegetables. Gustavino’s is recognized as a New York City Landmark since November 23rd, 1973.
