Does VU have a Dress Code?

Dress to Impress. VU Rooftop is an upscale establishment and requests that our guests arrive in appropriate attire to match. Please refrain from wearing clothing with offensive wording, beach/pool attire, or exposing excessive skin or undergarments. VU Rooftop Management has final approval on any entry into the venue and reserves the right to turn away guests who are determined to be inappropriately dressed, regardless of reservation status

Are there any Entrance Restrictions?

VU Rooftop also reserves the right to refuse entry to any guest who appears to be impaired by alcohol or drugs, or is acting in a manner determined by VU Rooftop to be threatening, combative, aggressive, or disrespectful towards other guests, or any VU employees or personnel. 

Any exercise of discretion under this presentation code shall be applied in a gender-neutral, nondiscriminatory manner, in accordance with all applicable laws. 

Is there a Cover Charge?

While VU Rooftop never requires a cover charge, there is a $15/per-person cancellation fee for reservations canceled within 48 hours of the set date and time. If you are looking to make an adjustment to your reservation, we recommend emailing info@vurooftop.com.


Is VU a 21+ venue?
As cocktails are our standard, being 21+ is the best way to receive the full experience, however, it is only required at 9 PM and after.

What forms of ID are accepted?

VU stands by sticking to the ILCC’s laws. We’re able to accept a valid current driver’s license or photo ID card from a Secretary of State office, a valid passport, or valid Armed Forces ID card.

Where can I park?

We have a valet available up front for $23 per car. There is also a parking lot directly behind the building off of Indiana Ave for which we have $14 validations for 4 hours.


Are reservations required?

VU has limited availability for walk-ins of up to 4 guests on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations are highly encouraged due to high demand. 

All reservations over 12 guests will be booked as a private event. Minimum spends start at $1,500 before tax & gratuity. Email VURooftop.com/private-events with inquiries!

Am I able to sit with another party with a separate reservation?

Any reservations that are intended to be combined with additional bookings will be done at the discretion of VU management. We cannot guarantee that any separate bookings will be seated adjacent to one another.

Is there a time limit on reservations?

We allow up to 2 hours for all reservations.

​

What is the protocol for weather?

In the event of inclement weather, all outdoor reservations will be accommodated indoors to the best of our ability. Based on capacity limits reservations may be rescheduled on the day of booking.

How does check-splitting work?

VU provides up to one check per table that can be split into four forms of payment.


If I am a guest of the Hiltons at McCormick Place hotels, do I receive expedited entry?
While we welcome all hotel guests, we still require them to make a reservation in advance.

How does renting the karaoke room work?

You’d need to book the karaoke room the same way you’d book a private event. Renting the room guarantees up to three hours for 16 guests. Typically, we reserve with a $1,500 minimum before tax and gratuity.

Is there live music?VU Rooftop features local live musicians and DJs on a rolling basis. We encourage you to check our website and Instagram frequently for updates on shows and features!


Do you have a full dinner menu?
VU’s culinary team has expertly crafted a menu to suit our space. Ideal for sharing, our menu is less multi-course focused and more about tasting all we have to offer.


Do you accommodate dietary restrictions?
VU Rooftop is sensitive to all food allergies and restrictions, and our service staff is trained to guide any guest through our menu safely.


Is outside food or beverage permitted?
No. VU Rooftop does not accept any food or beverage that is not made by our team, which includes desserts such as cakes.


Can I bring balloons and decorations to my reservation?
No. VU Rooftop has a beautifully designed space and experience that we want all of our guests to be a part of equally. If you would like to book your own private space to make your own, fill out an Events Inquiry here.

Is vaping allowed?

VU is a non-smoking environment this includes vaping, any e-cigarettes, cigars, etc.

Are you based in the Chicago area, or will you be there for ALA? Let's meet up at VU Rooftop across the street from McCormick Place (ALA conference site). The cost is $50/person for APA members; $65/person for non-members. Snacks and drinks are included.
